Subscription Plans — built around children, not corporations
VML Kids is funded entirely by subscription. No advertising. No data harvesting. No corporate pressure on what children see or how the platform operates. The price you pay is the only revenue we take — and it goes directly into making the platform safer, better and more useful for every child, parent and school that uses it.
🚫
No advertising — ever
Not one advertisement. Not one sponsored impression served to a child. The subscription model exists specifically to make this possible.
🔒
No data harvesting
Your child's data is never sold, shared or used for commercial profiling. It belongs to your family — not to us, and certainly not to third parties.
💷
Fair pricing
We know parents are not bottomless pits of money to be extracted. Every price point has been set with affordability in mind — not profit maximisation.
♻️
Revenue goes back in
Commercial viability funds better services, better safety, and better provision for children, parents, schools and professionals.

Home Education Accounts
Home educating families
Home-educating parents who register as home educators gain access to the same resources available to registered schools — curriculum materials, planning tools, progress tracking and support for the Edexcel private candidate examination process. Pricing is household-based, scaling gently with the number of children, because large families should not be penalised.
What's included: Full teacher-level access to curriculum resources, ability to keep official records of your child's progress, create learning plans, access all educational partner content, and access to resources to support registering your child as a private candidate for Edexcel examinations — a process we are committed to making significantly easier for home-educating families.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Basic and Premium for child accounts?
Basic
gives your child full access to VML Kids during their registered school's hours and term time — including all education features. Outside school hours, homework (if set) and documentarie, entertainment and communications remain available. Note, parents can set time limits via parental controls on these features accessibility.
Premium adds full 24/7 access to all content, access to extended educational partners including Khan Academy and Brilliant, and — once launched — access to accredited child counsellor support via secure text chat for everyday challenges as well as more serious concerns. Note, parents can set time limits via parental controls on these features accessibility.
If my child is in crisis, do they need a Premium subscription to get help?
Absolutely not.
Childline (0800 1111) and the NSPCC (0808 800 5000) are free, independent services available to every child at any time — no subscription, no account, no login required.
VML Kids will always signpost these services prominently. The counsellor support being developed for Premium is designed for ongoing pastoral support — everyday worries, family difficulties, school stress — not as a replacement for emergency services.
How does "registered school hours" work for Basic accounts?
When you register your child's account, you register their school. The platform uses that school's timetable — term dates, school hours — to determine when full access is available. During school hours and term time, everything is accessible. Outside those hours, homework (if set by a teacher) and documentaries are available. If a school's timetable changes, the platform updates accordingly.
What is the counsellor support service on Premium?
The counsellor support feature — currently in development — will connect children with accredited child counsellors via end-to-end encrypted text chat within the platform. Video counselling will be available where both the child and the counsellor agree to it. This is not a crisis service — it is pastoral support for children who need someone to talk to about everyday challenges: family difficulties, school worries, friendship problems, general wellbeing. It is being developed in partnership with the safeguarding community and will launch with full regulatory oversight.
Can I switch between Basic and Premium?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your subscription at any time through the Parent Portal. If you upgrade mid-period, you pay the difference. If you downgrade, the change takes effect at the next renewal date.
Can schools subscribe to both per-child and per-class pricing?
Schools can choose the model that works best for them. Some schools may prefer per-child pricing for smaller cohorts; per-class pricing offers better value at scale. Schools with pupils across multiple Key Stages will be offered multi-stage pricing. Multi-Academy Trusts and larger institutions should contact us directly to discuss volume licensing.
What is a Whole School Subscription and is it better value?
The Whole School Subscription (WSS) is a single annual fee that covers every class in a school — regardless of Key Stage or how many children are in each class. It is designed for schools that want to give every pupil access without the administrative burden of per-class billing. For a school with, say, 20 classes spread across KS1 to KS5, the WSS at £9,500 per year will almost always represent better value than subscribing class by class — and simplifies budgeting considerably. To see whether the WSS or per-class pricing works out better for your school's specific structure, contact schools@vmlkids.com and we can work through the numbers with you.
How does home education pricing work for large families?
Home education pricing is household-based and scales gently with the number of children — because large families should not be penalised for their size. The pricing covers up to seven children in the same household. If you have more than seven children, please contact us directly and we will arrange appropriate pricing.
What support is available for the Edexcel private candidate process?
Registering a home-educated child as a private candidate for GCSE and A-Level examinations is a genuinely complicated process. VML Kids is committed to building resources that make this significantly easier — including guidance on finding approved examination centres, understanding the requirements for each subject, and managing the administrative process. This will be developed in collaboration with home-educating families to make sure it addresses the real challenges they face.
Add-on subscriptions — Additional services will be made available for both families and schools as the platform develops. These will be clearly priced and optional, and will be communicated to existing subscribers before launch. VML Kids will never change the scope of an existing subscription without notice and agreement.
